What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is the very old Japanese art form of repairing broken objects with gold powder and lacquer. Creating a new life for a broken object by accentuating the repair and celebrating its uniqueness. Kintsugi is also seen as a broad philosophy. Finding beauty in imperfection and reducing waste.
About Vintage Japanese Knives:
All knives are proper vintage. Carefully selected based on quality and uniqueness and ranging from 40 years to over 100 years old. Forged with techniques passed down through generations. Japanese knives are known as some of the best blades on the planet because of their forging techniques and overall attention to detail.
Our Process:
Our knives are either refurbished to useable condition. Focusing on maintaining original character earned from many years of service. or customized with a unique handle made from rare woods or cast in resin art. Each knife unique and ready to use.
High Carbon Steel Knife Care:
Most vintage knives are made with high carbon steel and require special care similar to cast iron cookware. They CAN NOT BE RUN THROUGH A DISHWASHER. And should be kept dry when not being used, or after washing. avoid scrubby sponges. blades should be oiled for long term storage.
Carbon steel blades will slowly earn a natural "patina" with use. it might look like rust, but it isn't. if cared for properly the patina will stay smooth and protect the blade making it more resistant to water and acids. While high carbon knives require a little more care, they are well regarded as better than stainless steel by many professionals and enthusiasts. Carbon steel will keep a sharp edge much longer then a common stainless knife.
